What Will WiMAX Do For Me?

By admin | January 14, 2008

It’ll let you connect wirelessly to the internet at a longer range and at great speed, quality and security than WiFi currently does. Where WiFi only goes out about 100 yards, WiFi will be able to connect you over several miles, meaning you may be able to get WiMAX where no other internet connection was available before. This may be especially true in developing countries with no existing infrastructure like cable/DSL.

So what good does that do me now? Not much, yet, if you live in the United States. WiMAX will be rolled out here in the next year or two, and you can expect to see WiMAX devices come to market. Intel is working on WiMA-enable laptops, for instance. Keep an eye out for this technology. It may just add quite a bit of flexibility to your connected life.
