From MMOG-Center.com:

(MMOG = Massive Multiplayer Online Games)
(MMORPG = Massive Multiplayer Online Rope Playing Games)

Recently after a few years of thinking about it, I released a MMOG Portal. What is a MMOG? A MMOG is Massive Multiplayer Online Game. In these games that you play online, you interact with thousands of people in a virtual world.

With the launch of World of Warcraft, the MMOG that has the largest player base at this point (10 million at the last count ), this genre of games received a lot of publicity and many people of all ages started to join MMOGs for fun, socialization, and adventure.

Where to start your MMO gaming adventure? Well, if you have a little experience with this genre, I recommend first trying a few free MMOGs. There are tons out here, but they often have low quality gameplay and features, mainly because they don’t have much in the way of funding to develop them properly. Some of them keep the basic game free, but then they have shops with high end items for players to buy additional services or items. In this way they get money to sustain the servers, and perhaps gain a small profit…

At some point you may want to move to P2P MMOGs. P2P means Pay 2 Play; basically you pay a subscription every month, usually between 5$ and $14.99, depending on the quality of the game and its features. Of course most of these P2P MMOGs have a free trial subscription period, usually 7 to 14 days. This way you can decide if you like the game and if you would like to continue on a paid subscription, which you can then continue from where you left off in the game. This is a highly recommended approach before subscribing to a new MMOG on a paid basis.
